Crown Welcomes Kevin Shah and Mike Jackson to Creative Team
Carolina Crown is excited to welcome Kevin Shah, Percussion Arranger and Sound Design, and Mike Jackson, Percussion Arranger, to our program for the 2023 season! Both outstanding musicians and educators, we welcome their unique perspectives and artistry to our Creative Team. Kevin and Mike will be joining Creative Team members Rick Subel, Michael Klesch, Jeff Sacktig, Tony Lymon, and Richard Cravens, in producing another outstanding and unique program for the 2023 season.
“We are thankful for all the amazing percussion educators who have worked with us over the years, and I believe the engagement of Kevin and Mike within the Crown design team will continue to enhance upon the history of innovation, artistry, and excellence we’ve had with Crown Percussion,” said Jim Coates, director of Carolina Crown.
Over the last two decades, Kevin Shah's work with numerous organizations, designers, and educators within the marching arts and drum corps activity exemplifies his distinguished accomplishments as a renowned educator and award-winning designer. From 2010-2013, he served as the Sound Designer for the Bluecoats, and more recently as a Music Design Consultant in 2022. From 2014-2019, Kevin served as the Front Ensemble Arranger and Music Coordinator for the Blue Knights, later taking on the role of Creative Director in 2019. Mike Jackson has been teaching, composing and designing for percussion programs throughout the United States for over three decades. These include Mission Viejo HS (1989-2015), RCC (2004-2013), Santa Clara Vanguard (2006-2007), Bluecoats (2009-2013), and Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps (2014-2019). In 2010, Mike was inducted into the WGI Hall of Fame. (Read More About Mike)
Together in 2016, Kevin and Mike co-founded Broken City with Adam Watts on the principle of creating all-original, collaborative compositions between the three of them. Broken City won the WGI World Championship in 2019.
